Starr feels stuck and conflicted between these two worlds when she witnesses the unfortunate shooting of her friend, Khalil, by a police officer. The book provides valuable insight and commentary on racial disparities that are still found within today's society.

The book draws more attention to the dangers and sadness of a racist society.

Frankenstein is the story of a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who laments about his regrets after creating a being who has rebelled against its creator. The book keeps you curious and on the edge of your seat, constantly switching between the past and present perspectives of Victor and the creature. The book touches on themes of humanity, life, death, and the value of knowledge. It is clarifies the inaccurate representation of Frankenstein that is depicted in many movies and shows.
Animal Farm - George Orwell
Animal Farm is about a group of barn animals (led by pigs) who overthrow their human owners and create a society of themselves. The deeper meaning of the story reflects moments in history such as Russia's Bolshevik Revolution and the effects of gaining too much power.
The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger
The catcher in the rye is about a young boy, Holden Caulfield, who has just been expelled from his school. The story follows the days following his expulsion. Holden quickly notices many things that upset him about the current state of society. The book makes you think about and question preserving childhood, becoming an adult, and being a part of the "real word,"
